CHNS Microanalyzer

Microanalizador CHNS

It allows the analysis of the total content of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and sulfur (C, H, N, S) present in a wide range of samples. The analytical method is based on the complete and instantaneous oxidation of the sample by a “flash” combustion that converts all organic and inorganic compounds into combustion products.

The gases resulting from combustion are reduced and subsequently transported, using the carrier gas (He), to a chromatographic column. In this, the different gases are separated, which finally pass through a thermal conductivity detector (TCD) that gives a signal proportional to the concentration of each of the individual components of the mixture.

The analyzer has a measurement range from 100 ppm to 100% of each element, with a detection limit of 10 ppm. In about 12 minutes, the C, N, H, and S content of a sample can be analyzed.

Instrumental Facilities
  • Thermo Flash Smart CHNS Elemental Analyzer
  • 32-position autosampler
Applications

Organic and inorganic samples:

  • Synthesis samples
  • Cosmetics
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Soils
  • Oils
  • Fuels
  • Plastics
  • Sludges
  • Waste
  • Feed
  • Flours
  • Vegetables
Sample requirements
  • Samples may be solid or liquid (oils)
  • Solid samples must be completely dry to avoid errors due to the presence of solvents or moisture.
  • Homogeneous and representative of the material
  • Stables
  • In the case of unground samples, grinding will be marked on the Service Request.
  • The amount of sample required for each analysis is:
    • You only need: 10 mg
    • Other samples 2 mg
  •  Maximum number of samples per request: 20
  • In the case of samples containing fluorine or mercury, the estimated percentage for these elements will be indicated in the service request.
  • In those cases where more than one replicate is desired, the amount of sample necessary for each analysis will be indicated in the request and sent.
  • Samples must be sent in perfectly sealed vials or plastic bags along with the corresponding service request.
  • Users who wish to do so will have a period of one month to collect the samples measured in the service.
