Delta Plus XP

The Finnigan DELTAplusXP is the universal research and routine stable isotope ratio mass spectrometer for all applications using continuous flow and dual-inlet techniques. Its extended image plane supports continuous flow D/H measurements as well as atmospheric gas determination. The amplifier dynamic range is 50 V.
It combines the extended ion optics of the DELTAplusXL with completely new electronics. Key features of the new electronics include extended dynamic range (signals up to 50 V), simultaneous static collection of up to 8 ion faces, variable high-ohmic resistors under computer control, and computer control of ion source potentials and system parameters.
It is a universal tool for the determination of 13C/12C, 15N/14N, 18O/16O, 34S/32S, 37Cl/35Cl and D/H in continuous flow and dual input modes.
It offers simultaneous acquisition and ratio evaluation in up to eight Faraday collectors in a single image plane with a mass range of 22%, e.g. m/z 28 – 44 or m/z 2 and 3. It has the widest flexibility in detector configurations, allowing the development of new applications without compromising traditional applications. It is optimized for online measurement of D/H isotope ratios in a He carrier gas stream, with complete suppression of 4He+ interferences at m/z 3 (HD).
Features:
- Extended dynamic range
- Amplifier registration at 50V
- Computer switchable amplifier gain
- Simultaneous static multi-collection in up to eight Faraday cups
- Plug&Play peripheral recognition
- Electronic noise elimination with fiber optic signal transmission
- Computer controlled ion source potentials and parameters
- Full ISODAT 2.0 integration
GasBench II equipped with self-service counter
The GasBench-IRMS IRMS sample preparation and introduction system enables the determination of headspace samples, including water and carbonate equilibrium. It processes solid carbonate samples by transforming the species into a light gas (CO2), and through a HeadSpace system a thermodynamic equilibrium is generated between the solid and gaseous molecules and atmospheric gases (e.g., CO2, O2/N2).
The GasBench system provides high-quality analytical results in continuous-flow IRMS working environments. The sample is transported by helium gas, which allows separation by gas chromatography (GC) and facilitates the transport of viscous flow samples without fractionation, obtaining high-precision measurements of isotopic ratios of headspace samples, including water, carbonate and atmospheric gas equilibrium (e.g., CO2, O2/N2).
The measurement of D/H and 18O/16O ratios of water is one of the most important applications, including studies on natural variation not only in isotopes but also in the authenticity control of beverages for metabolic studies in humans and animals.
The GasBench II consists of a programmable autosampler, a gas sampling system, a system water removal system, a loop injection system, an isothermal gas chromatograph (GC), and an active open split interface prior to introduction to the IRMS. A reference gas injection system allows the precision and accuracy of a dual inlet system to be achieved in a continuous flow IRMS system.
The key areas are food authenticity analysis and geographical origin control.
