Sample Preparation Electron Microscopy

The purpose of this unit is to carry out all the processes to which a sample must be subjected so that it can be observed in an electron or optical microscope.

It is equipped with machines that allow for everything from cutting, burnishing and roughing industrial materials, to making ultra-thin sections (20 – 70 nm) of biological samples, previously undergoing their fixation and inclusion, or treatment to facilitate their conductivity, in the case of Scanning Electron Microscopy.

It is possible to make thin petrographic sheets and other materials.

Cryotechniques allow studies of material and biological samples to be carried out, maintaining the characteristics of the sample close to natural ones and free from preparation artifacts.
