Elemental Analysis

The Elemental Analysis Unit enables the determination and quantification of the C, H, N and S content present in organic and inorganic samples.
This technique is based on the complete and instantaneous oxidation of the sample by means of “flash” combustion. The gases resulting from said combustion are transported by means of a carrier gas, helium, through the reduction furnace and the chromatographic column to be finally detected and quantified with the help of a thermal conductivity detector or an FPD (flame photometric) detector.

Applications
Elemental analysis is a very useful technique in the analysis of:
- Quality control and determinations of C, H, N and S content in non-volatile viscous solids and liquids.
- Analysis of environmental samples: soils, sediments, sludge, algae, plants, wood, etc.
- Confirmation of identity and purity of any sample containing C, N, H and S.
Sample requirements
- They must be presented correctly identified and numbered sequentially.
- If the formula and/or approximate composition of the sample is known, it must be indicated to choose the reference standard to be used in the analysis.
- To obtain significant, repeatable and reliable results, samples must be homogeneous, dry and stable.
